Are you fed up of seeing advert after advert telling you how to make millions instantly using social media? Are you tired of listening to webinars where the trainer skips from practically homeless, starving and in piles of debt to owning a yacht, a mansion and a private plane?
Okay, I haven’t actually heard that one but you know what I mean right?
But seriously, aren’t you fed up of hearing those stories without them telling us that it doesn’t take the 10 minutes they took to relate that story, without us really hearing about the difficult moments and how they overcame those?
Over the last ten or so years, anytime I’ve done a goal setting exercise or answered the question
‘what would you do if you won the lottery or were given £10m etc my response has always been
‘I will spend most of my time writing.’
In my mind, when I said that, it was that I would sell my novel (which I've written), get a million pound/dollar advance and a three- book deal so I could give up my day job and write.
Well I gave up any pretence of a day job nearly 7 years ago and for the past 5 years I’ve been working as a freelance coach. In the summer of 2015 I suspended my coaching practice to take a coaching diploma. This was for a number of reasons:
1. I was charging way too little for my coaching
2. I wanted to be part of a coaching community
3. I wanted to be able to work anywhere in the world so needed something that could help towards international accreditation
In this time the opportunity to train to deliver personal development seminars arose so I've spent most of the last 12 months working towards that certification.
Well I’ve got my coaching diploma and have nearly completed my certification requirements and the past few months have been spent re-launching the business.
I finished my last project a couple of days ago (see Everyday For 50 Days) and wondered what else I could share with you.
I’m living the life I dreamed.
You see, in the last couple of months or so I’ve had the best fun. It hasn’t felt like work because it’s what I love doing.
The journey to where I am now has been long and sometimes very slow. I couldn’t do it by myself so each time I had a need I put it out there and the right person came along to help me. I don’t have a yacht, or a mansion or a private jet. I’m not an expert but I’ve worked with and am still working with experts and I can share my learning and my experiences with you.
Here at Minding My Own Business I will share my journey as I grow my business. I will share the highs and the lows, and when I can, I will pass on handy tips, but hopefully by my sharing my journey you will feel inspired to start your own.
Journey that is.
