I will try something I have never done before. That's right, I will try something I've never done before each day for the next 50 days.
I know what you're thinking,
I was gathering information for a blog piece about the things I did for the first time after I hit fifty in 2012, activities and events that capture the spirit of The New 5ifty and the idea that it’s never too late to make a change or try something new. I wrote my list and as it grew I thought how great it would be if I could identify 50 activities - I couldn't. The list included going to the Grand Canyon - a big dream of mine, dyeing my hair blonde, zip lining and experiencing a sweat lodge. I tried to think of simple everyday things I did for the first time and there didn't seem to be any. I'm sure there were some things I did even once but didn't think were important enough to retain in my memory bank. And that's something we all do. We minimise our achievements, we think, well I did it so it can't be that big a deal. Can you relate to that?
Anyway, I decided to challenge myself to do something I have never done before each day for 50 days. Some things will be really boring and some things may seem adventurous. People have asked what kind of change I want to create but I don't know. What I do know is that I'm going to have to suspend my 'no', I’m going to have to be more open to the possibility of increased creativity or resourcefulness. But I'm not going to prescribe an outcome; as they say it's the journey and not the destination that matters and I invite you to join me. I will post each day, telling you about my 'something new' for that day. I look forward to reading your comments and I encourage you to add ideas for things to do. Any ideas need to be based here in the UK, can't be too expensive, don't necessarily have to be daring and are greatly appreciated.
Share this with your friends and family and if you’re inspired then give it a try. Not necessarily for 50 days but maybe once a week. If that doesn’t grab you then why not pay attention to things you do each day and notice actions or activities that you’re doing for the very first time and then share them on this page in the comments sections.
